Description: Wine grapes have been grown in the Lompoc/Santa Rita Hills area of northern Santa Barbara County since the nineteenth century. Early growers and priestly vintners used the Mission grape to create sacramental wines at La Purisima Mission near Lompoc. Since the early seventies, vineyards producing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes have been planted in the Santa Rita Hills. The City of Lompoc is now known for it’s affectionately termed “Wine Ghetto” and other wine production facilities throughout the City which produce premier boutique wine.
